 |  | | |  Doctors’ musical quartet to raise £50,000 for Tommy’s
Instant Sunshine – a comedy cabaret quartet – will be performing their fourth concert in aid of Tommy's, the baby charity at the Old Vic Theatre in London on Sunday 21 October 2007.
The group was formed in 1967, when the cabaret hired for London’s St Thomas' Hospital New Year's Eve Ball was struck down by gastro-enteritis. Musicians Peter Christie, David Barlow and Alan Maryon-Davis heroically stepped into the breach to form Instant Sunshine.
Later joined by double-bass player Tom Barlow, they have performed concerts worldwide, in private for the royal family and had a long-running weekly slot on Radio 4's Stop the Week programme.
Jane Brewin, Chief Executive of Tommy’s said:
"We’re thrilled to have Instant Sunshine supporting Tommy’s once again. They have raised £100,000 over three concerts – a truly remarkable amount – and hopes to raise another £50,000 for Tommy’s from this upcoming concert. The funds raised will go directly towards Tommy’s vital research into preventing miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth. It will also help fund our Pregnancy Information Service, which provides free resources about pregnancy health to mums-to-be as well as offers a unique service whereby Tommy’s midwives are on-hand via phone and email to answer any pregnancy related questions.
