This is Candis Club's £50 million moment!

Candis Club's three current adopted charities - BLISS, the premature baby charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the British Heart Foundation - say a big 'thank you' for their share of the £50 million:

"Candis Club came on the BLISS scene in 1990, when we were still a very small charity trying to buy basic, vital equipment for hospital neonatal units. You answered our call and have come up trumps ever since. Your support has allowed us to grow. If we hadn't had that injection of money from the Club we wouldn't have been able to progress like we have. Today we have links with every single neonatal unit in the country.

"Through Candis we have been able to buy a huge amount of equipment. We have funded training for doctors and nurses in this very special type of expert care - and give more and more support to families.

"A lot of babies might have survived without intervention but they would have had to live with disability. By being provided with the right equipment and care at the right time, thousands of premature babies are living normal lives, and a lot of that is down to Candis Club. The fact that you have given £50 million to charities is incredible."
Josie Evans, Chairman, BLISS

"Our relationship with Candis Club goes back to 1998, and over those eight years you have donated over £4 million - an incredible amount of money. This partnership is so very important to us. Many hundreds of nursing hours have been provided by Candis Club members. You helped us in our appeal to build a new hospice in Bradford, which is our most patient-friendly centre and helped us establish a new palliative care institute in Liverpool, which is leading the way nationally.

"You have kept our nurses warm and safe on their day- and night-time shifts - buying them all fleeces and enabling us to create the Communicare service, which logs our nurses' whereabouts. This means that we know where they are and they know it, which is a comfort to them and to us.

"Candis Club has made an important contribution to Marie Curie's research and science efforts. You have created the Candis Laboratory in Surrey, where scientists are making sure that cells develop correctly rather than multiplying and becoming cancer cells.

"But for me the fact that over 300,000 Candis Club members are able to read about Marie Curie in Candis every month is a huge plus for our organisation because it helps them to get to know us better and know that our services are there.

"Candis Club members have made a huge impact on us, and Marie Curie Cancer Care would not be the same organisation without all the help that we have had from the Club."
Tom Hughes-Hallett, Chief Executive, Marie Curie Cancer Care

"Candis magazine has supported the British Heart Foundation for five years and within that time you have raised a phenomenal £1 million - and counting!

"The Candis partnership is vital to so many as the money raised goes into not only saving, but also improving, the lives of people who have been affected by heart disease in the UK.

"With the money raised so far you have contributed towards vital research into heart and circulatory disease. The BHF has been a part of medical breakthroughs, like pacemakers and statins, which keep thousands of hearts beating today - and the vital funds Candis provides help us continue this pioneering work.

"Your funding has also helped to set up some new Heartstart training schemes around the UK as well as a number of defibrillators within local communities and education projects to help encourage people to get more active and lead a healthy lifestyle.

"Candis is currently helping to fund BHF Heart Nurses who improve the physical and emotional health of heart patients and their families, providing great comfort and reassurance for those involved.

"It is not only the extraordinary amount of money that Candis raises that makes such a difference to the BHF, but also the awareness of heart disease that is highlighted within your pages. Heart disease is the biggest killer in the UK so we can't stress how vital the support you provide is."
Peter Hollins, Director General, British Heart Foundation
