Enjoy the delights of the Lake District on a Candis Club weekend break of walking and sailing

Join us on a trip to the Lake District for a weekend that will provide glorious views of Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere. And, to enhance your enjoyment of the weekend, you’ll be staying at the ever-popular Hydro Hotel, Bowness-on-Windermere, where you’re sure to receive a true Lakeland welcome.

Saturday’s walk is a circuit route of Grasmere and Rydal Water. The party will be divided into two groups covering the same guided route but in different directions. The route takes in the lake shorelines, across Loughrigg Terrace, through woodlands and past four of Wordsworth’s homes as well as some of the Lakeland industries and farming.

The walk will take around five hours on fairly easy ground and footpaths. A packed lunch is included and there is a planned stop for some liquid refreshment at either Rydal or Rydal Hall (not included in the price). Once back at Grasmere there will be time to explore the village before returning to the Hydro Hotel for dinner.

A ticket for a sail on Windermere is included in the price of the weekend. This could be used on Friday afternoon, if arriving early, or Sunday morning before returning home.

The autumn colours, especially when reflected on the water, will be a joy to see while looking down on Grasmere and Rydal Water and during your sail on Windermere. 

ITINERARY
Friday: make own way to the Hydro Hotel; pre-dinner welcome drink; dinner
Saturday: breakfast; coach to Grasmere for start of walk returning to hotel by coach for dinner
Sunday: breakfast, then free to take your cruise on Windermere or explore Bowness before departing for home

Remember: For your own safety and comfort, it’s advisable to wear walking boots or stout shoes and carry an extra layer, hat, gloves, a waterproof jacket and trousers
